Guide
Costs and fees, line by line
- Transaction fee: a charge for each purchase or sale.
- Spread: the gap between buying and selling price.
- Ongoing charges: funds deduct a yearly percentage inside the fund. Ask for the key information document (KID), which lists costs in a standard way.
- Currency conversion: buying assets in another currency means exchanging euros, and the rate used is part of the cost.
- Custody or platform fees: for holding your investments.
A difference of 1% a year grows into a visibly smaller pot over decades, so compare total cost for the way you actually plan to invest.
